Man and Van, From £40 an Hour
One driver. One van. One job. If you’re moving a single bed, a sofa, a flat’s worth of furniture, or a Facebook Marketplace purchase from the other side of Kent, this is the cheapest, fastest option we offer. No minimum of three hours. No hidden surcharges. No ‘waiting time’ nonsense.
What Man and Van Is Actually For
Man and van is for jobs that are too big for your own car and too small for a full removals crew. That’s a wider range than most people realise. Here are the jobs we book most often:
If you’re not sure whether your job is a man-and-van job or a full removal, send us a quick message with what you’re moving and where, and we’ll tell you straight. Sometimes man and van is overkill and you just need a courier. Sometimes it’s under-spec and you actually need a two-person crew. We don’t upsell you into the wrong service.
What Fits in the Van
Our standard man-and-van vehicle is a mid-size panel van, around 11 cubic metres of load space. To translate that into real-world terms, here’s what typically fits in one run:
- A three-seater sofa, a double bed, a wardrobe, and about 15 medium boxes — the contents of most studio flats
- A full king-size bedroom set — bed, two bedside tables, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers — with room to spare
- Roughly 30 to 40 standard moving boxes, floor to ceiling
- A fridge-freezer, a washing machine, and a dishwasher in one trip
For jobs bigger than that, we can either do two trips (cheaper if the pickup and delivery are close together) or send a larger Luton van with tail-lift (worth it for longer distances). We’ll tell you which makes more sense when we quote.
Not sure if your stuff fits? Send us a photo or a list. Five-minute reply. No commitment.

How the Hourly Pricing Works
The rate starts at £40 per hour for a single driver and the van, Monday to Friday. Saturdays are £50 per hour. Sundays £60. Bank holidays £70. Minimum booking is two hours, which covers us for the unavoidable fuel and admin costs of showing up at all.
The clock starts when the driver arrives at the pickup and stops when everything is unloaded at the drop-off. Driving between the two is on the clock. Driving from our base to you, and back from the drop-off to base, isn’t. You pay for work, not commute.
What’s included in the rate: the driver, the van, fuel, standard blankets and straps for securing items, and basic in-transit insurance up to £10,000. What isn’t included: council parking permits if you need them (usually £30 to £50, arranged by you), congestion charge or ULEZ fees for central London jobs (passed through at cost), and any specialist packing materials like crates for antiques.
If the job needs a second pair of hands (heavy wardrobe up three flights of stairs, say, or a piano), add £20 per hour for a second crew member. We’ll flag it when you book if we think it’s needed. We don’t add the second person silently and bill you for them later.
FAQs
Can I book for tomorrow?
Usually yes for weekdays, often yes for weekends. Saturdays fill up first, especially end-of-month. The earlier you book, the more likely the time you want.
Do I help the driver carry stuff?
No, unless you want to. The rate includes the driver doing the carrying. You’re welcome to help if you prefer but it doesn’t reduce the hourly rate.
What if I underestimate how long the job takes?
We keep going until the job is done and invoice for actual hours. If you’ve budgeted for three hours and it turns out to be four, the extra hour is charged at the standard rate. No surcharge for overrun.
Can I pay by card?
Yes. Card, bank transfer, or cash. Payment is taken when the job is finished, not upfront. For repeat customers or businesses we can set up invoicing on 14-day terms.
